I hope you’re enjoying the first few days of summer!
Full Moon Hike….Friday, June 13 at 8:00pm!
A Friday the 13th and a Full Moon…how lucky can we get! According to the Farmer’s Almanac, June’s full Moon’s name is the Full Strawberry Moon. June’s Full Strawberry Moon got its name because the Algonquin tribes knew it as a signal to gather ripening fruit. I’ve also have heard it referred to as the ‘Honey Moon’ due to it’s amber glow it often takes as it rises
This month’s hike will take us to Coyote Park Trail. This 3+ mile loop trail leaves from Coyote Park and heads up to the ridge overlooking Long Canyon. It provides beautiful views of Simi Valley. It’s a moderate hike with 1 good incline to the top of the ridge, but if you don’t mind stopping for a breather now and then, you’ll be fine. I’ve spotted numerous horn owls on this trail…what a hoot!
Coyote Park is at the south end of Sinaloa St…(go to almost the end of Sinaloa), turn right at Valley Gate Rd and the park is about a 1/4block on down on your left…plenty of street parking
Since the moon rises late (8:47),Let’s meet at 8:00pm and we’ll depart at 8:15pm.
