Full Moon Hike – June 13, 2014

I hope you’re enjoying the first few days of summer!

Full Moon Hike….Friday, June 13 at 8:00pm!

A Friday the 13th and a Full Moon…how lucky can we get!  According to the Farmer’s Almanac, June’s full Moon’s name is the Full Strawberry Moon. June’s Full Strawberry Moon got its name because the Algonquin tribes knew it as a signal to gather ripening fruit.  I’ve also have heard it referred to as the ‘Honey Moon’ due to it’s amber glow it often takes as it rises

This month’s hike will take us to Coyote Park Trail.  This 3+ mile loop trail leaves from Coyote Park and heads up to the ridge overlooking Long Canyon.  It provides beautiful views of Simi Valley.  It’s a moderate hike with 1 good incline to the top of the ridge, but if you don’t mind stopping for a breather now and then, you’ll be fine.  I’ve spotted numerous horn owls on this trail…what a hoot!

Coyote Park is at the south end of Sinaloa St…(go to almost the end of Sinaloa), turn right at Valley Gate Rd and the park is about a 1/4block on down on your left…plenty of street parking

Since the moon rises late (8:47),Let’s meet at 8:00pm and we’ll depart at 8:15pm.

Call or email me if you have any questions.

Good Morning and a Happy Friday!  It’s all but over for the 2013-14 school year!  Nice job and congrats to another successful school year!

Today is a half day for students, please mark those who are absent and the few that are here, please keep them in your classroom to help minimize disruptions.

Even as we close out the school year, changes are still happening, just this morning, I found out that Amanda Paulino has accepted a transfer to White Oak ES, and it’s most likely that Katrin Newell will accept a position at Santa Susana High. Yesterday I was informed that Yvonne Cherbak-Boyd was transferred to SSHS.  During the course of the day, stop by their rooms and wish them well!

Throughout the summer, I’ll try and post a weekly update on my blog…don’t be stranger over the next few months, either visit me on the blog or stop on by, but do enjoy your time away, because before you know it, we’ll be starting the new school year!

The Pioneer Spirit is out there, enjoy your summer vacation, keep smiling, and let’s all make it a great day!

Good Morning and a pleasant Monday!  I hope you had an enjoyable weekend and were able to do a quick battery recharge for the last week of school.

Regular bell schedule today, and then minimum days for the rest of the week with finals Tuesday through Thursday.  Tomorrow’s finals are periods 1 &4, Wednesday’s finals are 2 & % with Thursday ending up with 3 & 6.  Friday is a half day for students and teacher check out in the afternoon.

As a whole the switch over to Active Directory and Google mail has seem to be relatively smooth.  A few kinks are still being worked out and as I’m using it, I’m finding little ‘tricks of the trade’.  When we come back in the fall, we’ll have some in-services to get us all up to full speed.  The next step is moving all your documents/files to Chrome Drive. This link will guide you, or if you like, I’ll be happy to stop by and walk you through the process.  Part of the Year End Checkout requirement is to have this task done.  The current plan is to have your desk top removed this summer and you certainly don’t want to come back and not have your files saved!

I’ll be coming around your classes over the next few days letting you know if your room will be used for summer school.  I haven’t yet received a list for ESY SS, so I’m not too sure yet on the B/H quad usage, but as soon as I get the info, I’ll get the room assignments completed.

Not too late to let Sharon know about the Retirement/Farewell Party at Senor Gomez on Wednesday, June 4th at 4:00pm.  Besides saying Bon Voyage to our retirees, we’ll also have a chance to send off Matt LaBelle and Audrey Abarca-Pike since they’ll be moving on to bigger and better things!

The Pioneer Spirit is out there, enjoy the sunshine, open a twitter account and have your students follow you, keep smiling, and let’s all make it a great day!
